I just purchased a Mallard set. Tested it stationary and seems to be responding well to all commands. I am certainly impressed with the engineering of the 00 live steam system.

I am new to 00 model railways but steam is one of my hobbies.

I have about twenty stationary model engines and fifteen mobiles and locomotives. The locomotives are Mamods and two Hornby Rockets (3.5" track). Funnily enough the Hornby Live Steam Rocket also got a lot of negative press (gas tank, lack of power) but with a bit of love it can be a good performer. Let's hope that Hornby believes in the "Third Time Good Time" rule and brings out a live steam series again.
