Getting my First Loco

Next week I'll be getting my first steam loco Silver Link, funny thing is tho I had model steam locos before (non live steam) this is technically my first Hornby steam engine with a tender, By getting it from the club store i feel assured that I'm getting a good engine as well being with a group of people who can talk me thought things as I master the operation of stream power. A quick story here, since I was 6 or 8 years old I saw an ad on tv about Hornby's live steam and saw mallard, silver link, etc. I wanted it very badly but my family could never afford it and were worried about me getting hurt if I ever touch it hot. Over time I forgot about live steam and got some electric engines for the time until I even got bored of them (having no engine with a tender was also a reason), then in my teens by grandad took me to the national railway museum and there i first saw Mallard, because I'm colorblind to red I can't really see the beauty of there red locos, even mistaking one to be green. But mallard being that lovely Garter Blue, I was amazed tho I couldn't see the red of the wheels, it was just amazing to see such engineering. This years as a new years revolution is to really get into live steam and to buddy up with like minded individuals and hell maybe even see about getting a Lincolnshire show for them, and to really experience the age of steam in my own home smell and all. All I have to do now is wait and get ready for my new loco.

If you are collecting from Chris I'm sure he will be able to let you 'have-a-go' to get over that first hurdle.
