Populating the layout.

It's cold outside, and not much warmer in the shed, so I thought I'd try painting a few figures to while away the hours till springtime. I'm new to this sort of thing, so I bought a couple of packs of Dapol Kitmaster OO/HO kits, C008 platform figures and C012 platform accessories, to have a go on. Is it me, or will it look like a scene from the Hobbit if I mix these?

Even against a Noch HO figure (left) the smaller Dapol figures look under nourished,

but the larger ones look ok comparing to an OO gauge Bachmann figure (right).

What other correct sized unpainted figures are other members using that are reasonably priced.

I got an affliction when I was 12 that I call "Liberator Bomber Syndrome".

I'd just painted the yellow propeller tips on my Airfix Liberator bomber - it only took about 20 seconds but I'd spent several minutes stirring the paint, getting brushes ready and prepping the model and had lots of paint still on the brush - so I thought, what else could I paint yellow on the model?

2 minutes later the guns had yellow ends, there were yellow logos on the tyres, warning signs on the undercarriage and various stencil markings all over. Ruined.

These cheap Chinese figures are the same. Far too much use of gaudy colours. Yellow trousers? Orange shirts? Lilac suits? All glossy too. Too much paint left on the brush obviously invited "Liberator Bomber Syndrome".

Stephen I think all the models you've shown are useable if not gaudily painted and distributed around the layout. Don't forget, forced perspective is a useful tool in modelling. (The cheap Chinese ones too if repainted).
