live steam during lock-down
I was out of work (motor industry) from mid march to June ,as like the rest of the world
we closed down.
So we set about decorating / replacing furniture in the spare bedroom at home .
-but all DIY stores were closed
This lead to a opportunity to start building A4 60008 . I ordered parts that i needed
for the project, While I was waiting for them . I thought ,what would happen if I ran
my live steam locos only , would my layout stand up to the job, can the locos
be reliable ,
I tried this for a week , putting about a hour on four of my locos each day.
Only one loco broke the wire between tender and loco, and a broken solder joint
caused a point failure ! . the track had to be cleaned twice a day. and where the locos
stopped in the station had to be cleaned after every run. (this is the furthest away from the controller.). I found that you had to have procedures in place for everything to run smoothly,
or it became frustrating ! It was like running a real railway. The locos had to be cleaned
and maintained as well . I have yet to start that project., but the bedroom is nearly
completed.

Temporarily parked LS whilst I buy, test (and ahem play with) Thomas the Tank Engine stuff for 4 year old grandson. (The Radio Control accessory was a real discovery for me - having great fun with that with Thomas and my other 12v).
I'll be back I promise.
