3 questions "Control" "Circuits" & "Pressure"

Good Morning chaps,

here in with three simple questions that i hope won't be too taxing - i'm new, and i did warn you there would be a lot of questions!

1. "Control" - the hornby set up looks pretty good, and i'm getting the hang of it, but there must be something a little more accurate out there, or even a way to see the regulator position electronically? I've seen people mention DCC at this point, no good for the huge current the boiler needs but perhaps a radio controlled regulator system?

2. "Circuit" - are there any circuit diagrams anywhere? Following on from the previous question about control i'd like to know how the regulator circuit works and the board with the two lamps (Red & Green) i'd like to wire things to it, change things about a bit.

3. "Pressure" - I saw something somewhere about the pressure regulator, and it's adjustment, mine seems to "blow-off" far to regularly! Sometimes it "farts" as it lets off a lot of steam in one go rather than a short "pist" although the loco runs nicely, this does seem a bit odd, and effects slow running as the loco will stop when the valve releases pressure.

Cheers for now, hope to meet some of you at a show some day and thank you for all your kind advice over a nice cup of tea.

Just an update to pass the time while i drink this mornings huge mug of tea, and watch the madness that befolds me on ebay! (i have my eye on a couple of mallards...)

I spent some time rebuilding my Scotsman with all the seals Nick kindly sent through the post (they arrived fast and safely by the way - thank you)

The piston rings and their rod seals were completely shot! and one piston was hanging on by a single thread, this could have ended in doom quickly! After replacing all these seals plus a few more i thought would be good to change at the same time, the Scotsman is back up and running.

Just to note here i previously said "it won't run on the controllers first notch" well it does now, i guess it was loosing too much pressure through those piston rings!

(had a similar thing on the Alpine last year, but that was something else to get my head around - pardon the pun!)

Annoyingly i have lost the functionality of both the red and the green bulbs through fiddling with the electronics, i'll have another play a bit later on - but for now, we are back in business thanks to the support from the club - cheers all!
