Frequent running.
Hello everyone. I hope you are all well and doing fine.
I was wondering how often members of the club run their Hornby ools locomotives?
As some of you may know I have a garden layout in my caravan park CL which I run for guests to introduce them to the type and to the club. It is very popular but is at the mercy of the weather and rain in particular. On Saturday evening I had promised my gusts a demo and was embarrassed to find that after a whole hour of effort neither my trusty Mallard or Scotsman would run.
There was a cold wind blowing and the air temp was around 5 C
Full steam pressure was reached with blow off. I was determined not to give up even after everyone shuffled back to their caravans and motorhomes. Amazingly the two locos slowly but surely started to move right up to full speed. All my guests returned and the demo was a great success. I can only wonder as to why the locos were so slow to get running. They had been lying in their boxes for about a month. Do any of you have any tips for storing the locos so I can get them running more quickly from zero to hero in my demos?
I assume frequent running goes a long way to help.
Kind regards,
Andrew.
