The London Festival of Railway Modelling at Alexandra Palace on March 23rd and 24th 2019

March it must be Alexandra Palace, set up as normal on Friday, all went well with our supper at The Springfield, we have been going to this pub for about four years, they always look after us really well, their steaks are excellent both in value and quality.

Adrian, Nick and I agreed to meet at 8am on Saturday to film the first of our “How to Do” tutorials. For this first effort we decided to stick to the relatively simple jobs of removing and re-fitting both loco and tender bodies, also how to separate the tender from the loco. Adrian has now gone away to edit this and it will be available to members in due course free of charge. During the course of this year we will also produce tutorials covering “ How to change seals” “How to change tender wheels” “ How to reset the timing” Our plan over time is to cover most aspects of maintaining and repairing your live steam locos.

Saturday was extremely busy, both on the layout and the technical help desk, with many locos requiring attention. As mentioned in previous reports this is becoming an increasing issue as the locos age, so the sooner we get these “How To Do” tutorials done the better.

The speed challenge continues to attract a lot of interest from the youngsters, so this is something we will continue with. I was also able to acquire two Silver Links, one unused and one used, but with very little use, also a used Dwight D Eisenhower without a box. These will be appearing in the club shop shortly, but if you are interested do get in touch.
