Summer Meet 31st July and 1st August 2021
Hi Everybody,
We normally have our Summer Meet at Georges parents in Chatteris, but as they are in the process of moving this was not possible. Committee member Charles Leekam contacted the London Museum or Water and Steam, where it was agreed to hold it there. It was a great venue, with lots of old steam engines to look at, mainly stationary. However they did have one loco running where most of us got the chance drive, great fun!
We did not get as many members joining as in previous years, no doubt due to Covid, but it was great to meet up again, some of us have not seen each other since Doncaster February 2020.
We arrived for set up on Friday afternoon, Chris having a four hour plus drive! We had a small amount of finishing off to do on Saturday morning but we were ready to go by 10am. The museum is open to the public, but there were not huge numbers of people about, so it lent itself very well to a members event.
We had a new club loco on test for the first time, this is A4 Peregrine, we also will have another A4 Sparrow Hawk which will be available for the next event. These locos were originally Mallards where we have changed names and numbers.
Those staying overnight lodged at the local Premier Inn, the service was very poor on Friday night but improved on Saturday with a different team.
It was very good to see members Nigel and Andrew, I was particularly impressed with Andrew’s bodywork repair, very good you could not see the original damage, which was substantial. Should you read this Andrew you might consider a post on how it was done.
A big thankyou to Charles for organising this.
Our next event is Gaydon at the end of October, hope to see many of you there.
Maurice
