National Festival of Railway Modelling Peterborough

14th and 15th October 2017

An important show for the 00 Live Steam Club as it is also the time of year for the Annual General Meeting of your club.

Peterborough is one of the Warner’s shows alongside Doncaster in February and Alexandra Palace in March.

We all arrived on Friday October 13th, not because of set up; four is sufficient, no, because we were all invited to Chatteris, George James’s family home. As some of you will be aware George has been poorly recently, now well on the way to full recovery, his parents wanted to give him a surprise party. A great party is was too, with lots to eat and drink, great company, the world was put to right at least twice!

Most of the team stayed in Chatteris, George’s parents, Rebecca and Steve, always manage to accommodate almost everybody, it really is very kind. Eric, Mike and myself stayed close to the show in Peterborough., the advantage being not too far to travel on show days.

As is the case Saturday was the busier of the two days, everyone took up their normal positions, Adrian at the front of the layout, enthusing throughout, Mike on the outside with his de-frocked loco, extolling the technical virtues of live steam.

Inside we had Charles, Nick, also operating the shop, Richard and George, with Chris overseeing events from his deluxe chair with padded cushion.

Eric and I manned the technical help desk where we were kept busy throughout the two days.

I’m also delighted to report that that attendance was up on last year, that should bode well for the future.
