The Chatham Show 2024
This event was first started by our previous roadshow manager Charles, and then admirably taken over by Val our current roadshow manager. As well as liaising with the Chatham club personnel she organised food and drinks throughout the weekend, dedication proven by queuing up at the food bar for about 2 hours in total in order to feed the eight roadshow club members present.
The site is the Historic dockyard in Chatham, and is very interesting, three historic ships, including a submarine, a lifeboat collection, and many historic buildings. You can find out more here https://thedockyard.co.uk/ it's well worth a visit.
The event was held in one of the massive disused slipway buildings, with the usual traders stalls, and many club layouts. Setup went smoothly on Friday afternoon once we had negotiated the heavy traffic on the M25 around the Dartford bridge. Our stand was quite near the entrance so we had a good flow of visitors right from the start on Saturday morning. Jack was there early, before the rest of us and had the locos oiled and watered ready for a quick start.
Nick had a reduced shop, but still did a steady trade, and Chris was busy servicing club locos and some other club members engines.
Throughout the weekend we attracted a good stream of visitors, all of whom continue to be fascinated by this marvel of miniature engineering, a few additional members, and possibly some loco sales.
