Summer Meet July 27th and 28th 2019

The weather boded well for our summer meet As we subsequently found out, last Thursday was an all time record high temperature, all looked good for the weekend.

Saturday morning dawned, the car was packed and ready to go, the dogs had had their morning walk or should I say swim, the heavens had opened. Wonderful my wife said the garden needs this, I said I don’t!

So of I set for Chatteris, wipers on all the way and it broadly stayed like that until I got home on Sunday evening.

Those of you who have attended the summer meet will know that Steve and Rebecca James, George’s Mum and Dad host the event for us at their home. Normally the club layout is located in the garden under a canopy next to George’s shed where he has his layout, a very fine layout it is. Because of the weather it was decided to use George’s layout, it worked very well, it was lovely and cosy inside his shed. A popular place. Unfortunately I was located on the technical help table located under the canopy.

From the above you could be forgiven for thinking thank goodness I didn’t go, not a bit of it, we had a great time, quite a number of members attending over the two days, running their locos on George’s layout with Richard and myself working non stop on the technical help desk.

Member MCMLXI_Joe brought along a huge and fantastic Victoria sponge cake, he did the same a couple of years ago, terrific and many thanks to your wife who baked it.

Three members, Dave, Martin and Charles stayed overnight in addition committee members, may thanks for you help and support and indeed to all of those that came along. Many thanks to Steve and Rebecca for hosting our summer meet.
