Shildon Model Railway Club at Locomotion 5th and 6th October 2019

It’s always a pleasure to visit Locomotion at Shildon, even more so when we take along the layout and have two very enjoyable days.

For me this trip started a day earlier that normal. I decided to spend Thursday night and Friday morning in the town of my birth and upbringing Darlington. Just a few miles from Shildon. An excellent dinner on Thursday night at the Bay Horse in Hurworth, just a few yards from my old school, followed by Friday morning at Head of Steam Darlington Railway Museum. A very happy two hours was spent there.

Whilst there I met briefly Stephen T Bainbridge a well known artist who was displaying a number of his paintings and was in the process of painting a view of Darlington Bank Top Station from exactly where I used to spot as boy. As he was in the process of finishing the painting, I had to leave it, but took a note of his contact details.

Friday set up went well, as is the norm we stayed at the Premier Inn close by. Saturday was an extremely busy day, however we did miss Nick, not because of the shop, but his coffee machine! We were so busy there was no time to look around.

Sunday, as most of you know tends to be quieter, so I did get to look at the exhibits on display. I was surprised and delighted to find Stephen T Bainbridge there with his paintings on display and now the completed painting from Friday. I bought it, it has just come back from the framers and now has pride of place in my room.
