Controller Issues

Hello,

I've just joined the club. I was referred by Hornby Technical Support who told me that they no longer have staff with knowledge of Live Steam.

It's been quite a number of years since I operated my Live Steam layout.

However, when I assembled the layout today (with a view to checking it over in preparation for sale) I found that, after being switched on for approximately 10 seconds, the controller emitted a high pitch noise and the voltmeter reading fell back from 17 to zero. I can't recall this happening in the past but, as I say, it's been quite a number of years since it's been out of the box.

I assumed that this indicated a short circuit and gradually disconnected parts of the layout until only the transformer and controller remained connected. I was disappointed to find that the controller continued to emit the high pitch…

I think you have several options:

- The 00LS club offers Service and Repair, see associated page for conditions.

- Take some photos and offer the set as it is on the 00LS forum "For Sale and Wanted".

- Visit one of the clubs Roadshow events and get personal advise how to go on.

GAS FIRRED LIVE STEAM

I have added a short video of my 00 gauge LMS Jubilee loco

This is 40 years old and is gas fired with a double acting steam engine.

I produce several hundred )) and HO live steam locos under the banner of STEAMCRAFT.

I found only a small number of railway modellers have interest in live steam

I hope this club has increased the interest.

Magic. The Jube is lovely. I have had a permanent ebay search for a SteamCraft loco, but never ended up finding one I could buy.

Email Problem

We are currently experiencing some issues with all the emails linked to oolivesteam.com

For now anyone wishing to contact the club should use oolsclub@uwclub.net instead

Well it has taken awhile but the email problem has now been resolved and all emails sent to any @oolivesteam.com address will now work as normal.

Please accept my applogies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Installing new PCB

Just purchased a PCB from club shop for A4.

Comparing this to the original on place I can probably work through refitting and soldering wire but there seems (to me) to be two odd points.

The first is that the replacement comes with a black wire fitted but I cannot see where it attaches. I suspect answer is fairly obvious but can anyone help please? (and suggest anything else to take into account)

The black wire connects the left rail to the loco chassis. This connection is exclusively needed to feed the wiper contact which controls the 2 indicator lamps.

If the black wire connection is missing but the relay-PCB is OK, the loco can be operated except for the indicator lamps.
