Brockley Lane - 'Steam Up' Pit.....
A while ago, whilst building Brockley Lane, I mentioned about trying to build a 'steaming up' area incorporating a Rolling Road, actually, it's a Peco inspection pit, that can be lowered down, to allow the driving wheels to 'hang' above the track for running...
So, it's about finished...
First off, I cut a Peco Inspection Pit ( LK-156 - Code 75) into the siding.

The plywood top was cut, and the Pit mounted on it...
I then used plastic/brass shim, on the cut-out section, so that when it was 'Up', it was level with the siding rail heads.
The Pit base was then drilled for 4 Compression springs, these hold the Pit in the 'Down' position.

I plan to manually push the Pit 'up', when a loco enters or leaves the siding (I use a club 'Live Drive, so one-handed driving is possible)
Pit up.......

Pit down

The pit 'Down' position, is controlled by two long screws, that pass through the Pit mount, into the baseboard.... fitted with 'penny' washers to keep it level.

All that is left, is to connect up the wiring, for a test steaming..... fingers crossed!
Joe
