LNER teak coaches
Recently I bought the live steam Mallard, but I have to wait until the 6th July, until I come over from Belgium to collect it in the UK.
To my luck, it just hapends to be the clubs anual sommer meeting.
This, of course, is ideale for me to meet the members and let me get educated into opperating the live steam system, and test the Mallard.
It's like knowing what you're going to get at Christmass but than in the middle of summer.
It's a bit the Australian Christmass feeling experience. :-)
In the mean while I start preparing my self a bit.
I got quite a collection of OO gauge britisch steam locomotives and roling stock, all DCC controled.
Among the roling stock I got a lot of LNER teak coaches made by Hornby.
Hornby produced two catagories of these coaches, the more realistic ones, but very expencive ones , and the cheap ones, looking like brown Plastic.
The first ones I got at the time, where in the analog set of the Mallard, where the coaches where the cheap version ones.
Buying then the more expencive ones, would be ugly putting them together.
And even the more expencive ones altough better looking, still give me that plastic feel.
So I bought more of the cheap ones with a DIY plan in the back of my head.
My Idea is to hand paint them and create the teak feeling.
I now have done a few, it takes time but, I'm very pleased with the outcome.
The paint I'm using is transparent glass paint, using the brouwn plastic color as prime undergroud, also saving the decals.
The most pain striking job is the pin striping of the panel lines, as the original ones get lost, but worth while to do so.
Here is the result of a before and after:

Next stap is the decoration of interior.
I also hope to put lights in there that can be run on the DCC controles track as well as the live steam system.
I'll come back to that later...
Let us know what you think of the project?
Cheers,
Danny

Geweldige kat Danny😊! En schitterend werk wat je op de wagons losgelaten hebt. Een hele verbetering. Ook leuk dat je het "work in progress" laat zien.
