Hi from Brighton

Hi everyone, My name is Martin and I am 61 years old

I have a great interest in all things steam and have a

number of models such as Bowman stationary models

and Mamod moblies.

After visitng stia and seeing the 00 gauge in action I was

very impressed and recently purchased a Mallad live steam

set from e bay.

I hope you don't mind but I have a couple of questions:

I have laid down a 8x4 wooden base onto which I glued some thick

foam and onto that glued some scenics track bed and risers/decliners

I have glued the trackdown onto the track bed.

It consists of a large oval rising and declining at both ends

and a flat smaller oval connected by points inside the large one.

I ran the Mallard with two coaches for the first time this evening and I have

two problems:

It gets up a nice head of steam and runs around the flat smaller track about

twice and then the controller red light goes off and it loses all power

I bought and used brand new washers on the boiler and the oiler so I don't

think it is losing steam but this happens everytime?

Also it does not like the points at all it will run across them going around

the smaller inner oval but if I switch to make it go around the larger one it

derails everytime it gets to the points.

I purchased this set off ebay and the seller gave me extra track and three

coaches, as I have no experience in hornby I don't really know if all this

track and the points are live steam or not.

any help would be gratefully recieved.

We run our roadshow at chest height and I have set up my own layout at chin height but its hinged at the back along the whole 16' length so can be lifted at the front up to the ceiling when not in use to make the room usable for other purposes.

I've also started on a garden railway where all track sections will be removable (for the depths of winter) and supported by kitchen cabinet feet which have 2" adjustment. With this I can make sure it is all level or actually introduce small gradients to make running more fun.

As you have discovered you do need space to allow for the delay in control inputs but that is realistic and actually good fun.

Good luck
