Introduce Yourself

Public·1 member

Hello from Ireland

I purchased my first leve steam mallard back in 2005. Ran it on a seperate line on my layout. Layout dismantled a few years back due to changing hobbies and later bih of twins. My little boy is mad about trains and rekindled my interest. My mallard is back in action and was recently back to hornby for a well deserved service.

Since then I have assed a flying scotsman set bought unused running well.

Mallard set 2 picked up again unused but wheels a bit stiff. Running well though. I have converted to Silver Link.

D D Eisenhower. Runs well. Appears to be nicely broken in but in perfect condition.

Mallard set 3. Paid just £148 including 3 super detail teak coaches. for full set. Box was in very poor state. Straight into the bin. I think it must have been in a garden shed for a few years. The loco was very dirty but cleaned up well. After changing some seals and connection pipe I got it running. The controller has been restored also as it looked in a sorry state. This has now been returned from hornby service as is running very well with a very strong whistle sound. Repainted and running as Sir Nigel Gresley.

Flying Scotsman set 2. Bought from club member. I intend to repaint and rename. Possibly Tornado. I believe it runs well but I have not tested yet.

Flying scotsman loco 3, bought on ebay from AC Models as spares or repair. The seller sent some parts which were clearly missing in the ebay pictures at no extra cost. I took the loco apart and thoroughly cleaned everything. Replaced some seals and she runs very well but deserves a service. This will also get a repaint and renaming.

Collection four A4s and three A3s (Six controllers.)

My intention is to build a garden layout in the spring to accomodate at least 3 dedicated live steam tracks. Also some dcc electric.

My little boy loves the live steam and controls them nicely on the rolling road at under 5 years old.

P.S. I live in Republic of Ireland. Are there any other club members in Ireland?

Hi Rodney, Must get together sometime. Maybe combine efforts to get some non runners working. All mine running well now.
