The rise and fall of the WGGR.

The WGGR was launched in the summer of 1996 to keep myself and my then young sons entertained. By 1998 we had a twin track running round the garden and a varied fleet of engines and rolling stock.

Come the Millennium staff shortages where beginning to bite and the line was in danger of closing. An upturn in staffing in the mid 2000s (youngest daughter started to take an interest) and the re electrification in 2005 of one of the tracks to take a Live Steam train, saw the line go from strength to strength.

But alas, it wasn't to last, a couple of poor summers, running issues with Dwight, staffing problems again and the economic downturn saw the last train run in 2007.

Fast forward to 2018 a reshuffle in the house and I had to dust off and move all my rolling stock boxes, I made the mistake of taking Dwight out of his. I know he doesn't run, but it got me thinking and that led me to this forum.

Even if I do get him running again a lot of the GGWR has been dismantled over the years and what's left is in a sorry state.

But with a new generation of navvies on the way, you never know.
