And now I’ve got it going!
I was very much like the people mentioned on the club video, somebody who had made a purchase a few years ago, a Mallard and very early on, and then got disillusioned with it rapidly. My great enthusiasm was quickly turned into frustration as I just found it really too hard to control, so sadly it went back in it’s box and onto a shelf. That was until a few weeks ago when I decided to have another go. Completely by accident I had come across the club site and it gave me enough encouragement to have another go.
Now, thanks to the club, and its excellent advice and that of individuals who have helped, this time it has worked straight away. What is more I do feel, in complete contrast to my last attempts, more in control of what I’m doing. Instead of being lost I feel optimistic about using it and not disappointed.
The issue is very similar I guess with all these things, if you actually don’t know how to do even the simplest stage, it can become a bigger problem than it should be and a big deterrent. So what did I do? I read much of what’s on the site, before I started again. I then tried to follow its advice, and it has proved far better than the material originally send by a Hornby! For the first time my loco is responding to my instructions and not having a life of its own! As I said, I started by reading a lot of what was on the site, watching some of the videos, but several things really helped. (A) I bought the Club DVD - If you're new like me, it is well worth buying! (B) I followed club advice and bought a rolling road. Brilliant!
I haven’t moved to the actual track yet, still running in! No doubt that will present other things to think about, but while I allow it to run in again I’m going to build my ‘Live Drive’.
Thanks to everyone who has helped, the excellent shop, the excellent videos and what looks like a great club. I have still lots to learn about this great little invention!!

Now to make your success infectious Dave and bring the other 11,999 mothballed locos back into joyful use. (I'm guessing we active Club members account for 2,000 locos)
