The London Festival of Railway Modelling 24th-25th March

We all had a very enjoyable weekend, I must say Alexandra Palace is a much nicer place in March that the model engineering show in January, not because there is anything wrong with the January show, it’s just the weather and it’s on at the same time as the snooker which makes parking more difficult.

Having said that we love them both!

Set up was on Friday afternoon and as we had plenty of volunteers to help, I decided to remain in a recumbent position at home. Even though there were plenty of people on hand the set up took an inordinately long time due to a certain individual spending too much time chatting and not enough doing!

I arrived early Saturday morning with milk, for Nick’s outstanding coffee, and breakfast muffins all round.

Everyone arrived sort of on time, with the day being extremely busy for everyone. It was great to see Jimmy Whitehouse back in our midst, we’ve missed him. I’m delighted he’s coming to Doncaster as well.

Unfortunately Richard Hallam did not make it, he picked up a milk bottle and pulled a muscle in his back, some milk bottle! To be fair to him he did set off, but the pain was too great, not from the back but the thought of meeting us lot!

One of our members brought along his Seagull, which I was able to purchase on behalf of the club, it was unused and not taken out of it’s box, a real gem. This was sold on Sunday to another club member so going from one good home to another! I inadvertently forgot to take the purchasers name so if you are reading this would you please message me with your name.

Adrian and I met with Simon Kohler of Hornby on Saturday afternoon, great to see him back at Hornby with all of his knowledge and enthusiasm.

Saturday evening found us at the Springfield again, it really is a very convenient place and good value, however not the same freebies as in the past.

Sunday was a little quieter but still very busy. The show closed at 4:30pm, packing up taking about an hour, less chat this time!

Fly-Drive . . . Nick's new one off radio control unit used to control the innards of one of the clubs Live-Drive controller units attached to the original Hornby controller . . . . honest!

Worked really well although Charles found out the hard way that the hand operated unit is none to responsive when the receiver unit (top photo) is not turned on!
