Manchester MRX 18th and 19th May 2019

Hi Everybody,

So, two weekends on the trot, three days at Doncaster and now two at Manchester. If you haven’t been to this exhibition, do give it a try, it’s based at the Manchester Transport Museum, they move the old buses to the back of the shed, and outside, the layouts and traders are then laid out in front of the buses. There is lots of memorabilia around the place, it puts a great big smile on your face. There is also a courtesy bus service to Victoria Station using the old busses, great fun.

It’s organised by the Lancashire & Yorkshire DCC Model Rail Group, we’re now in our third year and enjoying every minute of it.

Eric, Chris and I did most of the set up on Friday evening, took us a couple of hours, Charles arrived as we were finishing, he’d had a somewhat trying journey. It’s much easier with the new backdrop and for the first time we had our new flags, which you can see in the pictures below.

George and Nick arrived quite late on Friday evening, but in time for nightcap before bed.

Dave Wood joined us Saturday morning, so we were seven, just the right number. Saturday was busy, as Adrian was not able to join us, we all took at stint on the front of the layout, I think Charles spent quite a lot of time there. He does have the “gift of the gab”

We decided to go back to the Pizza Express on Saturday evening, very good indeed, George again won the prize for demolishing his Pizza in record time.

Sunday as is the norm was quieter day, but nonetheless just as enjoyable.

Sam, many thanks for your best wishes and I am fully recovered now. One of the trials of daily contact with any one of four snotty nosed grandkids pretty much guarantees a constant stream of coughs and colds that normally I just live with, but this time it morphed into a chest infection. Again these things happen and I can live with occasionally being ill, but why oh why did it have to coincide with consecutive weekends with the Roadshow . . . George did well out of me at the evening meals as I had no appetite . . what a waste!

I have seen Maurice's hammer . . . but so far only on show and not actually in use. However, I will continue to work on him so that one day he might well have the confidence to give one of his locos a little 'wallop' to loosen thing up!
