National Festival of Railway Modelling Peterborough December 8th and 9th 2018

This is one of my favourite shows, excellent location, unless you’re coming from Salcombe in Devon! Warners put on a very good show, led by Sarah and her team, they always make us most welcome and allow us to use the Cambridge Suite for our AGM.

This was also the final of the Speed Challenge, we had close to 40 entrants over the two days, some of the children had some great ideas for making Mallard go faster. One young man had drawn a picture of Mallard being pushed by a physically large male person. I said to him “well how does this work?” That’s the incredible hulk pushing it, brilliant! Not surprisingly this was one of the winners.

We had three winners, with Tony Wright judging. Details are shown in a specific Speed Challenge post

Adrian manged to get BBC radio to carry the story, unfortunately Anglia TV were diverted to a house fire. Shame as we have lots of smoke!

We had a significant number of members attend, John, John’s dad and John’s son ran some of his excellent loco conversations. The streamlined Duchess is gloss looked fantastic.

Clive Janson also came along with his Golden Fleece donor loco for the limited edition, he has chosen Merlin. So far 17 orders so if you want one time to get a wiggle on, a great late Christmas present to give oneself!

I also had the opportunity to purchase four locos from a member, three of them unused. The used loco had very little steaming, but on test it tripped out. Eric quickly found the fault, a failed thermistor. It just goes to show that it’s not only use but age as well. All four have subsequently sold.

Happy New Year to everybody,

Maurice

And finally Nick's pile of club distilled water being given a little boost by the man in the red suit . . .
