Electrical Issue?
My Silver Link has been in an undressed state for a while. It needed a new reverse pawl spring. In replacing the spring I also had to renew a couple of gaskets. Fiddly work, lots of things to undo but not impossible. Job done and after reassembling the rest of the loco, it was time to put it on my test rig. Watering up the tender and a dab of cylinder oil down the front I switched on the controller. It was only registering 14 volts and after a few seconds the ominous squeel emitted denoting 'no loco on track'. All the connections seem ok, nothing loose. I cleaned the electrical tender connections but still no good. I decided to put another loco on the rig and it registered 16 volts and was able to get steam. So why only 14 volts with Silver Link? Is this lower voltage the reason it drops out? Electrical issues are very frustrating, eh!

I'm glad you've found the problem. Happy steaming once again !
