Thermal cut out
On my last 3 or 4 steamings the control unit alarm has sounded and cut off power after between 10 or 20 minutes whilst the boiler still has water in it. On the last occasion I siphoned out the remaining water which amounted to in excess of 100ml. Could anyone shed any light on what may be causing this early shutdown?

Yes, it's thermal paste. As recommended scrape it up and reuse it. Horrible stuff gets everywhere, but it means that a snug fit is fine. Glue is not required and can act as a thermal barrier, so better to avoid it.
