Oil usage?
Question for you guys who have run your engines more. Do your engines leak oil? I noticed the other day after running Silver Link (for the first time in several months admittedly) that there was quite a bit of oil on the bottom of the cylinders and a few drops of oil splattered along the top of the engine. Is this normal? Was it because it sat in its box for so long? I didn't notice anything wrong with it's performance, it heated up quickly, ran strong, pulled well. Did stall out once at a high point where my layout isn't level, but alot of my DC locos struggle there too (I'm leveling the layout this weekend). Am I just worrying about normal oil usage, or is something wrong?

Yer !!!!!! too much oil as Adrian said. I put a ‘tear drop’ off the end of the oil syringe in ‘every run’ and no excess oil everywhere . Adding too much oil will detroy the rotary valve pressure pad. Thence, It will eventually carbonise over the superheater making an awfull mess and eventually the whistle then that will start to sound sick!
