Flying Scotsman

Hi, I have bought 2 Flying Scotsman locomotives this year, one new in the box and runs beautifully after running in on the rolling road, the other as new in the box and in theory only run once or twice. This one has run well at times including pulling 35 coaches, which is as many as you could get on the track before it touches the front of the loco!

However, I have now a new track layout with up and down lines for live steam and up and down lines standard electric locomotives. The 2 Flying Scotsman's now each have a rake of 6 coaches and run regularly but one has now developed the following fault.

Firstly, that smell of electric burning, from the locomotive, followed by a sudden stop. On further inspection I have found that the cable connector from the tender to the engine has burnt together at the white connector on the lights board in the cabin and that the six tender wheels that pick up the electrical supply will not rotate. Further inspection has shown that on the positive side of the axles that the axle has "fused" with the square axle bearing boxes.

Has anyone encountered this before? Any explanation why this might have happened?

Please note that all electrical connections have always been good etc.

Also please advise the supply of new electrical parts.

Regards

Fred
