Mallard and Flying Scotsman

Hello I'm Stefaan and thanks for letting me join. I have 4 loco's of which 2 are just marvellous. The other 2, Flying Scotsman and Mallard are giving me troubles. Both of them had the same problem as the reverse leveller snapped. I have replaced them in both engines but neither of them wants to turn a wheel. I've got the impression that there is a problem with the reversal valve assembly in both engines as it looks as if the gear isn't travelling far enough comparing to Silver Link. Mallard gets steam but seems not to be able to built up enough steam. Safety valve isn't blowing. Would it be any good to replace de pressure valve? Looking forward to any advice stefaan

Hi David,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'll happily take on your advice. In the meatime I've got both engines running forwards... so I bet the springs are getting tired on both of them. Mallard runs smoothly after replacing the superheater but doesn't pick up any speed and no way in getting her reversed. Scotsman runs forwards but not smoothly. I think you might have a point that there is a problem with the gear assembly.

best regards and thank you
