A4 regulator : top-hat & tear-drop
Preparing Seagull for Doncaster, I followed the Forum advice to clean the regulator motor by firstly removing the superheater .
Curiousity got the better of me and I lifted the spring and regulator top-hat , remembering to note the position of the steam channels.
The top-hat face was cleaned with 8000 micro-grit paper. Noted the tiny profile of the tear-drop steam channel, only 1.5mm in length. I should have taken a photo, as it is hard to believe that such a small device can unleash a such a massive range of speed in the steam mechanism.
Reassembled the regulator gearbox , regulator valve, superheater, cleaned red/green wiper board and
the loco runs fine on the rolling road.
The real test will be pulling a load on the Roadshow layout this weekend.

Well done !!
