A4 uneven running

Hello to every one,

Firstly steam was pouring out of the chimney and the loco would barely run a full loop on my track, so first port of call was to renew the piston seals, both sides brittle and broke into about five pieces when removed, these were replaced with new items and she ran fine on the three rolling road tests but was reluctant to haul seven coaches with steam sill coming out of the chimney (but not as bad as she was initially)

I then removed the rotary valve and pressure pad, the pad had disintegrated so removed what was left of the pressure pad cleaned everything checked there was no small particles under a magnifying lamp, refitted with new pad, sealing cushion and oiled as per the instructions (thanks for the swift arrival of the parts Nick) put her on the rolling road and she took until the wiper arm was just over half way until she moved and now is jerky and uneven when running. Could i have done something to the timing whilst re-assembling?

Any advise would be welcome.

Thanks Dave

dave, you might have broken up bits of pressure pad within the cylinders or in the steam ways as you took the front off after changing the seals so now you have new seals and possibly some debris within the cyls or steamways.

Unless you touch the timing, i cant see that it will have changed at all or enough to cause the rough running.
