Controller cut out

I wonder if anyone can help with a problem with the controller.

I am using a rolling road but I doubt if this matters. The lights on both controller and transformer unit come on when powered up and I hear the “whine’ of the current to the loco. After 15/30b seconds the “alarm’ (I believe this is indicating overheating usually because water has run dry) sounds and the controller lights shut down.

This has happened before and is usually rectified by unplugging everything for a while and then restarting, presumabley meaning that something resets itself.

This time the problem continues even after leaving the unit unplugged for over 24hrs.

On reading what I can find the suggestion seems to be is that it is either a faulty thermal cut out unit or some fault with the controller, I would doubt it is the transformer but suppose I could be wrong.

Has anyone any suggestions please?

Many thanks. I have ordered some various parts which will mean I need to disassemble so will look at your suggestions when i am doing this.
