Model Dismantling Advice
Good evening all,
I have recently got back into the Live Steam Hobby after discovering the club and visiting the Roadshow a few weeks ago in Manchester.
I have recently bought two part complete 'Mallard' Live Steam models (sold as spares/for repair) from the famous auction website in order to learn more about how to care and maintain the Models I have. So I have read the OOLS Club guide on dismantling the 'Mallard', and I have printed a copy of the Service Sheet, but before I jump right in and start dismantling the locos does anyone have any advice for things to be careful or wary about?
I originally had planned for them to serve as a supply of spares, however I would love to bring one back to life and recreate one of the other members from the A4 class if I can.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Alex

Ahhh!!!!! Tetrachlourowostitsname!!!! Love it! May be a bit harsh though.
I use IPA which is less harsh on metal finishes,,,but not on paintwork. I wash bodies with a soft 1” paintbrush and a shot of Fairy liquid, a good lather and foam up and rinse and repeat. They come up like new baring wear and tear. Hairdryer to finish off!!!
(Yes I’m the kind of guy that gets a kick out of restoring car headlights)
