Uneven wear on timing gears.
When I was replacing my split timing adjuster I noticed the timing would still slip occasionally. I found out that the timing gears have been only contacting on half of the gear. Which I assume caused the severe wear on the teeth of the gears.
To keep it from slipping I pulled the gear off turned it around and pressed it back on. So that the good side of the gear is contacting the rest of the timing mecanism instead of the worn part. I suspect this won't last forever but will delay having to get a new gear entirely.
My loco does run a lot better now that the timing doesn't slip every 3-4 runs.

The small cog ended up being securely fit causing the the loco to run fine now for 4 runs so for now the problem is solved for me, but will keep an eye on it.
