Controller Fault (different one this time)

I'm looking into a controller given me by Dave Watson at the club's summer meet. The heating part of the controller works fine; so does the motor drive when moving the control lever to the right. However, when moving the control lever to the left, the output switches to zero volts and stays there as long as the lever is held over. When the lever is released, the controller goes back into heating mode as normal.

I have opened it up and looked at the PCB - I was expecting to find a dry joint or blown component, but everything looks OK (see photos). Any ideas which part of the PCB I should investigate or what might be the culprit?

Many thanks for your help,

David

It turned out to be the high-side MOSFET for that direction. That's the "top left" of the 4 in the H-bridge, as pictured above. I replaced it and the controller is happy again now - drives the regulator motor in both directions.
