Advice on service
Dear All,
I am a new member having been sold on OOLS after seeing the stand at Alexander Palace.
i have subsequently managed to obtain a complete Mallard set and just yesterday a Flying Scotsman from ebay. Clearly both these locos are used but have not been operated for a long time and almost certainly need a good looking over. The A3 certainly seems to have a couple of issues. When powered up there was no red light. It heated up but the controller tripped out a couple of time with a continuous tone from the speaker. On removing the cover I can see a small twist of steel wire that seems to have cut through the glass insulating sleeve. Maybe this has caused a short? Also, the small pcb it’s the LEDs on seems to just fall off - the sockets on the base PCB are clearly not holding the pins firmly.

In general I would like both locks to be brought up to tip top condition. The question is whether to contact Hornby or whether an expert member of OOLS can offer me a refurbishment service?
i know that OOLS members are probably the experts now. Is anyone interested in helping me?
Another question I have is whether it is possible to construct a more complex layout than just the simple oval. Multiple locos? Multiple psus/controllers? Would someone be interested in offering me paid advice on a OOLS layout to suit a table around 12x6ft? I am in S.E. London
Sorry for the long post, but hope you guys can help me get going.
Nick

OK I understand now. The problem is sourcing suitable replacements. They are for quite a specific purpose and so far we have have had no luck in finding any.
When the need has arisen I have done the same as you, buying the complete set. Although an expensive way of solving the problem at least there are four in a set so now you have some more spares ready for next time you lose one . . . . . .
