A3 vs A4

In terms of the chassis, are there any differences between the two i.e. are they interchangeable? I have just a chassis but no idea if it will fit an A3 or A4 body? What changes would need to be to either bosy or chassis to make them fit, if possible. Sorry very new to this railway thing and my back ground knowlegde is very limited, so I appologise in advance, many thanks.

I am sure an A4 will not fit and A3 but not sure the other way round so long as you can do significant modifications and make adaptors for the mounting. Big problem is the chimney. In A3 it is integrated to the small chimney orifice but with A4 chimney exhaust is lower down and adaptor pipes may be possible. Adaption would be extremely complex and require a very detailed survey to whatever body top being considered. A3 pistons are shorter and scale length, A4 longer but does not matter for the pre war locos but for war time and after the wheel body skirting was removed showing the extra long cylinders on the Hornby live steam. I would favour the prewar liveries as the long cylinders are out of sight.
