Knowledge Base & Members Projects
So, if you have read the News page then you will already know that links to the last two loco description pages are now active and this marks the completion of the restoration of the original OOLS website pages.
This means that we can now focus on improving the levels of information located in the Knowledge Base section of the site and start to add to the Members Projects section, currently ‘a work in progress!’
Easy to say but when it comes down to it not so easy to do . . . why? . . . because it will hold a large amount of valuable information that will need to be stored in such way that it will be easy for you, as members, to randomly browse through or be organised enough for you to find that critical bit of information when you want it.
If you take a look at the current Knowledge Base page there is a structure but it needs expending and my question is “what is the best way to do it?”
We have a ‘Getting Started, section and plan to add more of the original Hornby documentation. What else should we consider for the beginner?
We have Troubleshooting, Technical, How To’s and Build your Own sections . . but is that the best way?
Should we have other sections, such as Locos, rolling stock, layouts, Electrical, Service? If we do should troubleshooting be in service? You can see the problem . . . .
It’s making my head hurt so as the site exists to serve the members it’s time for some input from yourselves. What do you think?
All ideas on a suitable structure will be gratefully received. They may or may not be used, but all suggestions will be considered.
Over to you
Chris Oakes

Well its nearly a year since this idea was first muted . . . but I am pleased to say that the new Members Projects section is now live.
The new Members Projects page will provide access to documents and videos via a hierarchical structure. The main headings or categories, such as Loco Mods, Loco Repairs, Rolling Stock, Baseboards, Control, etc. link to individual pages relative to that subject.
These pages then contain links to all the individual videos and/or documents that have been provided by the club members.
There is also an alternative way to access the videos and documents available by using the Members Contributions page.
Along with the new section the original knowledge Base page and its links have been restructured into a more logical design.
Have a look and let us know what you think . . . .
